Chosen as one the New Wonders of the World in 2007, the ancient Incan Citadel of Machu Picchu lay hidden from the outside world in dense jungle covered mountains until July 24th, 1911, when the outside world simply stumbled upon it. Today, you don’t need to slash your way through Andean cloud forest like Hiram Bingham did in 1911 to visit Machu Picchu! On most of our tours to Machu Picchu, you’ll board the train from Cusco or Ollantaytambo in route to Aguas Calientes – the small village at the base of Machu Picchu. From Aguas Calientes we’ll hop on the shuttle bus, which takes us directly to the main entrance of Machu Picchu itself. Here, one of our expert guides will join you in visiting the highlights of the Citadel. The train usually departs Aguas Calientes at around 4:00apm, so you’ll need to be back down in Aguas Calientes about 2:00pm for some lunch then to catch the return train to either Ollantaytambo or all the way to Cusco.
